Habits Of Highly Successful People
THEY MAKE LISTS
Productive people don’t make lists and turn away, rather they make lists of little action steps that will improve their overall day. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with our busy lives but creating a daily list of “action items” will help you stay honest with yourself and highly motivated.
Best advice… Start small with creating daily action steps that work for you. Once you get the hang of it it will become second nature in no time.
THEY AVOID MULTITASKING
Keeping the mind focused on one task reduces the risk of making mistakes (which speeds things up and also gets that one job done more quickly). Multitasking confuses the mind, so stick to your list that you made in tip one and focus on only one task at a time throughout the day.
THEY WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER
Why would you go the longest possible path… if you can take the least resistant road? A simple reason really, so you can accomplish more in the shortest possible time frame.
Highly productive people already do this. They use their main resources and tools effectively, so they have considerably more time to focus on their most important tasks.
Streamline your priorities to work for you, not the other way around.
THEY LIMIT DISTRACTIONS
Highly successful people aren’t easily distracted because they are too busy getting their most important tasks done. So reducing distractions is an excellent way to make sure you complete the items you need to prioritize.
If you happen to work from home, then get out of the house and go to a coffee shop if you know that working from home will cause you to focus on housework instead of work.
If social media often distracts you, (which it most likely does) permit a fixed time to scroll and do not deviate from that scheduled period.
Find yourself replying to too many messages and falling behind? Close your email window (on your desktop) or your phone (when working) and only respond to emails early in the morning and another scheduled time during the day.
THEY USE THE 80/20 RULE
Another way to prioritize tasks comes from the 80/20 principle.
The 80/20 rule (also called the Pareto Principle), discovered by Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto, states that 80% of the outcomes will come from 20% of the effort in any quest.
So it goes without saying that most highly productive people know what their top priorities are and are honing, shaping and perfecting them. They look at ways to cut down the other 80 percent of what’s taking up their time, to find more time for the things that make the biggest impact in their lives.
THEY TACKLE THE MOST CHALLENGING TASK FIRST
Whether it means getting that long-winded email out first thing come morning time or booking that appointment that needs to be had, highly productive people give priority to their toughest and annoying tasks first.
By finishing your most challenging item on your to-do list first thing it frees up mental energy that would otherwise have been worrying about it. And it’ll lead to getting more done throughout the day as the brain gets a little hit of dopamine (that good accomplished feeling) every time an important task is dealt with head-on.
THEY BUILD EXERCISE AND HEALTHY EATING INTO THEIR DAILY ROUTINES
Research proves exercise makes our brain more alert, attentive, and better able to focus. Food gives us energy and enables us to move, so naturally, these two go hand in hand. So fuel your body and your brain by eating small healthy snacks throughout the day and move around in between.
THEY RISE EARLY
In terms of mental clarity, dexterity, and energy, early risers really have a distinct advantage. Early risers get a lot more accomplished throughout their days simply because they have more time to plan. So if you’re not waking up at your desired hour yet then make sure that you set yourself up to win and go to bed early enough! If you are mentally exhausted from very little sleep that’s not going to help you either.
THEY SURROUND THEMSELVES WITH POSITIVE PEOPLE
Don’t let negative people hold you back. Understand that negativity generally comes from unhappy people and it’s most likely that those people just envy you anyways. So hey, that’s a compliment!
Happy successful people don’t tear others down. They love being with winners that are not afraid to get out of their comfort zones and cheer each other on when they need it. So surround yourself with people that are ambitious and pleasant to be around. Focusing on the negative is too simple to do and there’s just no great outcome that you will get from partaking.
THEY ARE AWARE OF THESE PRODUCTIVITY KILLERS
If your goal is to be more productive in life, then you better know these top five attention destroyers. Identifying distractions is the first step to avoiding them, so here they are…
Cell phones/texting
Internet
Gossip
Social media
THEY DELEGATE THE RIGHT WAY
Highly productive people know that they can’t do it all entirely on their own. Connections are the key to life and so is delegating the right way to be the most productive.
Highly productive people only delegate a reasonable number of tasks (that are appropriate to the skill level of the delegatee) when they want to see good results. They know when to stop, revise and reintroduce something new when they are not getting the desired results that they are wanting to see.
